Google: Chrome OS

INTRO
Google Chrome OS a new operating system built around Google Chrome. It is still a beta version based on Linux and note that it is free and.

Chrome OS is at the beta stage. You can download the free virtual appliance of Chrome OS here:

The tarball is containing vmdk and vmx files. You need a free http://www.vmware.com/ or http://www.virtualbox.org/ in order to run this appliance.

Now you can also install Chrome OS on your hard disk using this Live CD image:

Download the iso file and burn it into CD-R. Boot the computer from it and when Chrome OS is loaded, click Live Installer on the desktop. Follow the instructions.
Warning: Google Chrome does not work in Live CD mode, you have to install it to the hard disk at first!

INSTALLATION
Unzip the ISO file to burn to a CD-ROM/DVD.
Restart the computer (in the BIOS change boot sequence to DVD/CD rom).

From there Google Chrome OS setup will be launched
Choose your language by pressing F2
Then Google launches the OS
Click on Live Installer if you want to install desktop on your Hard Disk
The password is: root
Simply follow the instructions
You must save the passwords for the following:
User password: user
Root password: root


Note that: Google Chrome does not work in Live CD mode, for time being, you must install on the hard disk.

Screensaver Configuration
Under Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty), you can configure the time set for launch of screensavers but not the screensavers itself.

Below is a suggesting way of how to troubleshoot this setting:

Launch the settings xfx-screensaver-settings

The settings of the screensaver can be modified as from xfx by clicking on Settings
